There’s no doubt that people all over the web (if it still exists at the time this autoposts) have come up with this idea for a post so this won’t score points for originality. But, here’s my countdown of my top five songs about the end of the world.
5. All You Zombies by The Hooters
OK. It doesn’t exactly say “end of the world”, but what could be more end of the world than zombies. Besides, it talks about Noah and the ark. For a whole lot of people, that was the end of the world.
4. London Calling by The Clash
Ice age coming? Sun is zooming in?
3. It’s the End of the World as We Know It (and I Feel Fine) by R.E.M.
I score no points for originality here either, but I loved what R.E.M. was doing in the 80s and 90s even if I lost track of them after Automatic for the People.
2. Until the End of the World by U2
A track from probably my favorite album of all time.
1. End of the World by Rob Dickinson
This song is slowly inching into my list of favorite songs. I don’t remember how or where I first heard it, but it’s beautiful, emotional, completely overlooked song. Just look at the lyrics for the chorus.
If the end of the world is near
Where would you choose to be?
If there were five more minutes of air
Would you panic and hide?
Or run for your life?
Or stand here and spend them with me?
If we had five more minutes
Would I, could I make you happy?
So, what about you? What are your favorite songs about “the end of the world”?
